Answer

Private companies, also sometimes referred to as privately-held companies, are businesses that do not have shares that trade on a public exchange like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).  Unlike public companies which are mandated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to publicly disclose financial performance data, private companies do not have to release this information to the public.  Consequently, finding figures for things like revenue, profit, sales, etc. for a private company can be difficult.  Fortunately, the Pomerantz Business Library provides access to a number of subscription databases that can help you find private company information.  Take a look at this guide to find some of these private company information resources.
