We've got a lot of resources that can help. Here are some good places to start:

  • Historical Newspaper Collections - This page provides access to to historical runs of a number of U.S. major newspapers as well as some international papers. There are also some large newspaper collections.
    • The various Proquest Historical Newspapers titles allow the user to limit search/results by publication date, and document type for front page article, article, display ad, comic, editorial, etc.
    • Early American Newspapers allow the user to limit by custom date range or era and to limit article type for news articles, shipping news, advertisements, etc.
    • The Times Digital Archive and the Sunday Times Digital Archive allows the user to limit search/results by publication date, and by publication section or document type for front matter, article, sports news, advertisement, etc.
    • 19th Century Historical United States Newspapers also allows the user to limit search/results by publication date, and by publication section or document type for front matter, article, sports news, advertisement, etc.
  • Magazine Archives - This page provides access to numerous magazines and a few larger magazine collections. Use publication date and document type features to limit search/results.
  • Print magazines are located on the 3rd floor, east side of the Main Library. Materials are shelved alphabetically by title. You can check bound magazines out at the Service Desk or use the self checkout machine. You can also scan pages and send them to yourself via email or save to a flash drive.

*When looking for advertisements use search terms like brand names (if known) or marketing speak, i.e. what words would be used in an ad to 'sell' a product.

  1. Hey Janalyn - when you work on this one, could you make it more general to deal with historic/old newspapers and remove the original question? Thanks, Cathy
