Where can I find total stock market capitalization (value)?

Answer

Use Bloomberg, available on select computers in the Business Library.

  • Type ALLX WCAU into the command line and press <GO> for a listing of market cap by country.

Take a look at Global Financial Data (GFD).*

  • Click on GFDatabase.
  • Then, select Stocks - Capitalization, Volume as the Series Type.

*Users must authenticate with their HawkID, then log in to GFD.

For lesser known stock exchange market cap data, take a look at the World Bank's Market capitalization of listed domestic companies (current US$).

For World Development Indicators, visit WDI Online from the World Bank. Historical data, 2000-2017, is available from the Open Knowledge repository.
