Where can I get information about women in the workplace and women as business owners?

Answer

Use PitchBook* to search for female founders and entrepreneurs. Click on the People tab on the left menu to get started:

  • Set Gender = Female
  • Select the Founder/founding Partner button
  • You can also include criteria like Locations, Firm Types, or University/Institution affiliation, like University of Iowa.

*FIRST TIME USERS: please create an account using your University of Iowa email address (@uiowa.edu) and a password for your account.

Take a look at Women's Bureau from the US Department of Labor.

Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Women in the Labor Force: A Databook.

Use Bloomberg, available on select computers in the Business Library.  You can find data on the percentage of women in a U.S. public company's workforce.

  • Type the company's ticker symbol then hit the yellow <EQUITY> key.
  • Then, type FA ESGS and hit the green <GO> key.

Data Axle (PREVIOUSLY ReferenceUSA) allows screening for female executives.  Use Advanced Search filter Executive Gender.
