Visitors from outside the state of Iowa are welcome to browse and read physical materials while in the library. If they'd like to use a computer to access the internet or online databases during their visit, they can request a Guest ID at any UI Libraries service desk. Guest IDs are valid for 30 days.
Iowa residents may do all of the above, and are also eligible to apply for a Community Borrower Card. This card allows them to check out up to 25 physical items at a time from most campus libraries. Please note that remote access to online databases is not available, but a Guest ID can be used for on-site computer access.
Community Borrowers receive all the services mentioned above, including in-person borrowing and the option to request a Guest ID for on-campus computer use.
Note: Some visitors, such as sponsored scholars, visiting faculty, or participants in UI programs, may be eligible for borrowing privileges. For a full list of eligibility categories and borrowing options, please visit Library Services for Visitors.
