From the UI Libraries home page, use InfoHawk+ to find books on different topics. Select Advanced Search and use broad keywords on the topic you are searching.

Once you find a title that looks promising, view its Details (full record). The record for a book will provide:

  • a location, so you know which library has the book, and
  • a call number to help you find the book on the shelf.

Further down in the record, you will see links for subject headings assigned to that book. Click on a subject heading and you will retrieve all similar works assigned to that heading.

Books in the UI Libraries are shelved by Library of Congress Classification, meaning they have a call number that is a combination of letters and numbers, like this: HA202. Check the Library of Congress Classification Outline to see which call numbers are assigned to which subjects, then consult a map of the library to see where those books are shelved.
