You can use the self-checkout kiosk, across from the Service Desk at the Main Library, to check out books, holds, course reserves, and magazines without having to wait in line or interact with someone at the Service Desk.

Read the screen as you go and follow these steps to successfully checkout your items.

Step 1: Place your Iowa One Card or your community borrower card with the barcode face up and scan under the red light.

Step 2: Select the checkout option:

Step 3: Place your item spine down to scan the barcode and desensitize it. Be careful to locate the University of Iowa Libraries' barcode to scan (instead of the manufacturer's barcode). It may be found on the back of the book, on the inside cover, or the first page.
Now desensitize the item by sliding the spine against the v-shaped cradle until you hear a "clunk" sound. That means it is now desensitized and won't set off the alarm as you exit.

Step 4: The machine will notify you when the item has been checked out successfully.

Step 5: Select your receipt option. Your item can be now be taken home and enjoyed!
