Choosing a research topic isn't always easy. But it can be fun if you find a topic that piques your curiosity.

It is most important that you know what your professor or instructor is asking of you and that your research topic fits the assignment parameters. Before you do anything, make sure you read your assignment documentation closely.

Start browsing. Where you browse will depend on the class topic and department, but here a few resources available through the libraries that could help you explore topics, no matter your class discipline:

  • Browse newspapers, news magazines, and literary magazines at The Perch in the Main Library or online on The Perch guide
  • Try the databases below to explore topics and ideas:
  • Have a general topic you're interested in exploring? Type a few keywords in our A-Z database list search and browse databases that show up in your results. Or type your keywords into InfoHawk+ to see what comes back.
