Work titles

There are two broad types of music titles; titles that have a musical form in the title and titles that are more descriptive or distinctive.

Form Title example: Sonatine for saxophone and piano

Distinctive Title example: Danse de la chèvre for solo flute

Form Titles should NOT be italicized.

Distinctive/descriptive titles should be italicized.

Movement titles

Movement titles in non-English should be italicized.

Movement titles in English should NOT be italicized.

Example:

Bourrée
Sarabande
Gigue

vs.

Fast
Slowly
Super fast
