Q. How can I make my documents posted on ICON accessible for students with visual impairments?

Answer

PDFs can be made machine-readable using Adobe Acrobat tools.

Open the pdf in Adobe and click on TOOLS near the top.

Click on ENHANCE SCANS under Create & Edit.

Click on RECOGNIZE TEXT – in this file.

Then click on the blue box RECOGNIZE TEXT.

Adobe Acrobat will convert your document to machine-readable text. Save the new file to ICON and you’re all set. More information may be found at IT Accessibility @ Iowa.
