A patron told me they were a TRAC borrower rather than a Community Borrower. What does that mean?

Answer

TRAC (Two Rivers Alma Collaborative) borrowers are faculty, staff, or students from participating academic institutions in Iowa who are eligible to borrow materials from the University of Iowa Libraries through the FastTRAC program. These patrons use their home institution’s ID to check out items, rather than a Community Borrower Card. Learn more about TRAC here

At the desk, you may see both a Community Borrower record and a TRAC record for the same person—especially if they previously applied for Community Borrower access before becoming TRAC-eligible. In these cases:

  • Check out materials using the TRAC record, as it reflects their current borrowing status.

  • The Community Borrower account may appear expired, but that’s okay—no action is needed unless the user has questions.

  • If the user asks about removing the expired Community Borrower listing, please refer the question to lib-maincirc@uiowa.edu. Staff will be happy to look into it further and will contact the user with further details.

For questions about an account's status or if you’re unsure which record to use, feel free to email lib-maincirc@uiowa.edu.
