If you are looking for an item that you know we have but cannot find, please contact the circulation department (email: lib-maincirc@uiowa.edu or phone: 319-335-5299) or ask a staff member at the service desk.  They can help make sure you have the correct shelf location, call number, and branch library. Once they have confirmed you have all the correct information, and the item is not where it is supposed to be, the circulation department will look for the item for the next few days and will refer you to the interlibrary loan department if the item is still not found.

If you would like to skip the step of contacting the library and just put the item on hold, that is also ok. You can request items from our collection through your account on InfoHawk+.  Follow the steps below to place an item on hold.

1. Go to My Library and click on Check My Account

2. Login with your HawkID and Password or your Community Borrower credentials.

3. At the top of the page, choose "New Search"

4. Put your search into the search bar and refine your search by choosing different options in the left Refine Your Search menu

5. Find the item that you want to put on hold and click on the "Available at..." link to expand the item's details.

The item listing contains the item's format (aka what type of resource is it), the title, the author, the publishing information, the edition information and publishing year, whether it is available, which library it is at, and the call number. The last line has an arrow pointing to it and it is highlighted so it can be clicked to see more information

6. Under the Find in Library section, choose the reservation option you prefer. There are three different options: "request physical item", "request PDF of a single chapter", and "recommend a library purchase".  If you would like the physical item, chose "Request Physical Item", but if you just need a single chapter, the option "Request PDF of a Single Chapter" will get to you faster. (If you choose this option, you'll be routed to our InterLibrary Loan / Document Delivery system.)

The other options "request PDF of a single chapter" and "recommend a library purchase" are listed to the right. Under these options, it lists the location of the item and the call number. Beneath that, it says "hide details", which is also highlighted. Under "hide details", it lists how many copies the library owns, how many are available, and how many requests are currently on the item.

7. Fill out the request info then click "request". There are several pickup options so pick the best fit for you.

8. You will receive an email when your item is ready to be picked up (or when it will be delivered if you choose home or office delivery).  Your hold will be available for pick up for ten days after you receive the notification that it is ready.
